Emily Fox, a defender for the United States women’s national soccer team, recently shared her excitement about representing her country at the Paris Olympics. Before heading to Olympic training camp, Fox spent time at home in Ashburn, Virginia, where she came across a childhood paper about her dream to play in the Olympics. Now at 26 years old, Fox is set to fulfill that dream as part of the 18-player U.S. women’s national team roster.
Growing up in Ashburn, a hub for sports, Fox excelled in soccer and chose the sport over gymnastics. She played competitively, leading her high school team to the state finals and earning a spot in the United States U-18 team. In college, she switched from midfield to defender, becoming a star player for North Carolina. After college, Fox played in the NWSL before joining Arsenal’s women’s team in Europe.
At the Olympics, Fox brings speed and defensive prowess to the U.S. team’s backline. With older stars like Megan Rapinoe retired, Fox joins a younger squad aiming to win gold. The U.S. has struggled in recent Olympics, failing to medal in two of the last three Games. Fox acknowledges the pressure but is honored to represent her country and hopes to be part of a new era of success for U.S. women’s soccer. With her family in Paris to support her, Fox is ready to give her all on the field and help the U.S. team compete for a medal.
