Rescue teams plan to retrieve cockpit from Potomac River

Salvage crews are working on recovering the wreckage of an American Airlines passenger plane and a U.S. Army Black Hawk helicopter that collided, killing 67 people in the Potomac River. They have already retrieved parts of the plane and will soon move on to the helicopter. The National Transportation Safety Board is leading the investigation into the cause of the crash. Divers are also searching for debris and warning people not to touch anything related to the crash. The recovery effort has closed a large section of the Potomac River to unauthorized vessels. Among the passengers on the plane were 28 young skaters returning from a figure skating camp, a pilot, a student, and a group of friends on a hunting trip. Three soldiers were also on the helicopter. Retired skater Polina Edmunds, who attended the skating camp, expressed sadness at the loss of the young skaters and praised their dedication to the sport. She described them as being on the cusp of achieving success in their skating careers. The tragedy has deeply affected the figure skating community, as they mourn the loss of promising young talent.
