Luigi Mangione, the man suspected of killing UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson, has been arrested in Pennsylvania and is expected to be extradited to New York City to face a murder charge. Evidence linking him to the shooting, including a 3D-printed handgun, silencer, mask, fraudulent identifications, and writings, was found after a customer spotted him at a McDonald’s, leading to his capture. Mangione, a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania, has been charged with possession of an unlicensed firearm and forgery, in addition to murder.
Thompson’s death caused an outpouring of support for his family and frustration against the health insurance industry online. Mangione comes from a prominent Baltimore family, and his cousin released a statement expressing shock and sympathy for Thompson’s family. Police found the gun, silencer, mask, and writings that expressed ill will toward corporate America in Mangione’s possession after his arrest in Pennsylvania.
The arrest marks the end of a dayslong search for the masked gunman responsible for Thompson’s death, which occurred outside a hotel in Manhattan.
