41-year-old Brieonna Cassell was missing for six days before being found trapped inside her wrecked vehicle on the side of a northwest Indiana roadway. A man named Johnny Martinez noticed her car off the road while operating equipment nearby and called for help. Cassell had fallen asleep behind the wheel and sustained two compound fractures in both legs. She was trapped in the vehicle and had to use a sweatshirt to collect water from a nearby creek to stay hydrated. Martinez’s quick action helped save Cassell’s life, and she was transported to a Chicago hospital in stable condition. A GoFundMe was created to help with Cassell’s medical recovery, with a goal of $15,000. As of Wednesday afternoon, over $3,000 had been raised. Cassell is scheduled for surgery to address her leg injuries, and her recovery is expected to be a long road. Sheriff Shannon Cothran praised Martinez as a hero for spotting Cassell’s car and acting swiftly to help her. Cassell’s mother expressed gratitude to everyone involved in finding and rescuing her daughter. The incident occurred near the Newton County Landfill, approximately 90 miles southeast of Chicago.
