Zayden underwent treatment and a bone marrow transplant at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, over 1,100 miles from their home. The family has been staying at the Ronald McDonald House in Philadelphia since April, where they have found comfort and support during this difficult time.
The first Ronald McDonald House opened in Philadelphia in 1974, inspired by the struggles of an NFL player’s daughter with leukemia. The charity now has over 400 houses and 270 family rooms worldwide, providing a free and safe place for families to stay while their children receive medical treatment. The goal is to provide wraparound care for families dealing with medical crises, offering services like transportation, meals, tutoring, and support groups.
The Sanchez family has received support and assistance from the Ronald McDonald House, allowing them to focus on Zayden’s recovery. Zayden, who also has autism and epilepsy, has shown incredible resilience throughout his treatment. His parents marvel at his strength and positive attitude, despite facing difficult challenges at such a young age. They credit the Ronald McDonald House for providing crucial resources and a comforting environment during this trying time.
