Trump claims Iran is plotting to assassinate him, according to US intelligence, in order to create chaos.

Former President Donald Trump was briefed by U.S. intelligence officials about threats posed by Iran and alleged assassination attempts. The intelligence comes after the Justice Department charged a Pakistani national with ties to Iran in a murder-for-hire plot. The Trump campaign released a statement saying Trump was briefed on threats from Iran to destabilize and sow chaos in the U.S. Officials emphasized that no foreign government was found to be behind the alleged plots. U.S. intelligence has warned that Iran is meddling in the election to harm Trump and help his opponent, Vice President Kamala Harris. The FBI and federal agencies have highlighted Iranian hacking attempts and meddling in U.S. elections. Iran has been targeting Trump administration officials for retaliation against actions such as withdrawing from the nuclear deal and the killing of Iranian General Soleimani. This has led to sanctions on individuals linked to Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps. The ongoing threats have resulted from Iran’s intent to target and assassinate former administration leaders involved in actions against Iran, including the strike that killed Soleimani. The U.S. remains focused on disrupting plots by the IRGC and Qods Force, emphasizing the need to prevent further acts of violence and intimidation by Iran. Iran has vowed to retaliate at a time and place of their choosing following the 2020 killing of Soleimani.
