Dansby Swanson records 4 hits to help the Chicago Cubs dominate the Washington Nationals with a 14-1 victory

Dansby Swanson led the Chicago Cubs to a 14-1 victory over the Washington Nationals with four hits and three RBIs on Sunday, extending their win streak to six games. The Cubs, who finished an 8-1 road trip, are now 20-8 since July 31 as they aim for an NL wild-card slot. Jordan Wicks pitched five solid innings, allowing only one run in his first big league appearance in over two months due to injury.

The Nationals, who fell to a season-high 15 games below .500, were swept for the eighth time this season. Darren Baker, son of former manager Dusty Baker, made his MLB debut as a pinch hitter for the Nationals in the ninth inning, getting a hit on his first pitch.

Despite a strong performance by Washington pitcher Mitchell Parker, the Nationals’ defense struggled, committing three errors. The Cubs capitalized, scoring runs in the third and fourth innings and adding seven more in the ninth against rookie relievers.

The Cubs’ offense has been on fire, scoring 99 runs in their last 10 games. Manager Craig Counsell praised the team’s performance, highlighting the contributions up and down the lineup.

Looking ahead, the Cubs will face the Pittsburgh Pirates at home in a three-game series, while the Nationals will play the Miami Marlins after a day off on Monday. Both teams will be looking to build on their recent performances and secure wins in the upcoming series.
