Natalie ‘Nadya’ Suleman, also known as Octomom, opened up about her parenting style in an interview with People. The 49-year-old mother of 14 shared that she is a strict parent, implementing a combination of unconditional love, positive regard, and structured discipline for her octuplets who just turned 16. Suleman admitted to making mistakes with her older children by being permissive instead of providing consistent structure, discipline, and consequences.
Suleman, who has a degree in child and adolescent development, shared that she raised her older kids while attending college and earning her bachelor’s degree. She is now focusing on instilling values of kindness, humility, and serving others in her children. Suleman does not allow her kids to have phones, date until they are 18, or use social media, believing that it is toxic for them.
Despite living in a three-bedroom apartment with 11 of her children in Orange County, California, Suleman ensures the family spends quality time together by engaging in games, gym visits, and movie nights. For those interested in learning more about Suleman’s story, they can tune into the Lifetime movie “I Was Octomom: The Natalie Suleman Story” premiering on March 8 and the docuseries “Confessions of Octomom” debuting on March 10. This strict mama’s approach to parenting is focused on raising children who value serving others and prioritize internal joy and happiness over self-absorption and entitlement.
