After nearly 80 years of serving the community, Crisfield Seafood, a beloved landmark in Silver Spring, Maryland, is set to close its doors for the last time on December 22. The announcement of the closure left many residents saddened and surprised, as the restaurant has been a cherished dining spot known for its seafood bisque, broiled fish platters, and crab cakes.
Originally opened by the Landis family in 1945 on Georgia Avenue, Crisfield Seafood has become a cultural icon in the area, with its walls adorned with autographed photos of celebrities and professionals. The restaurant even earned a spot on The New York Times’ list of “The 25 Best Restaurants in Washington, D.C. Right Now.”
In a written statement, the Landis family expressed their gratitude to their loyal customers and staff, thanking them for helping to build a DMV legacy. However, the closure is attributed to the inability of one family member to reach an agreement to renew the lease.
As the community prepares to say goodbye to Crisfield Seafood, many are left to reminisce about the good times shared at the restaurant. An employee reflected on the establishment’s legacy, stating, “We had a good run.” This closure marks the end of an era for Silver Spring, leaving behind memories of delicious meals and warm hospitality that will be deeply missed by all who have enjoyed the restaurant over the years.
