FOX News reports that Morelle aide Michael Hopkins was arrested for attempting to bring ammunition into the Cannon Office Building

A House staffer for Rep. Joe Morelle (D-NY) was arrested for bringing ammunition into the Cannon House Office Building, as reported by FOX News. Michael Hopkins, 38, was caught with four ammunition magazines and eleven rounds of ammunition in his bag during a security screening. He claimed to have forgotten the ammunition was in his possession. Hopkins is now facing charges for unlawful possession of ammunition, including possession of a high-capacity magazine.

Morelle, who is the top Democrat on the House Administration Committee, was not directly involved in the incident. Hopkins, who has been a guest on FOX 5 DC in the past, was a Democratic strategist discussing political issues on the show. In previous appearances, he spoke about the race for the Republican nomination and discussed important topics such as COVID-19 vaccines and supporting veterans.

The arrest of Hopkins highlights the strict security measures in place at the Capitol, especially following the January 6th insurrection. This incident serves as a reminder of the importance of adhering to all rules and regulations within federal buildings. The Capitol Police have taken swift action against Hopkins, emphasizing the seriousness of bringing unauthorized items into federal buildings. Rep. Morelle has not issued a statement regarding the incident involving his staffer.
