Alec Bohm of the Phillies benched in Game 2 of the NLDS due to recent struggles

The Philadelphia Phillies decided to bench All-Star third baseman Alec Bohm for Game 2 of the NL Division Series in an effort to shake up their slumping offense. Bohm had been struggling, going 0 for 4 in Game 1 and showing frustration at the plate. Edmundo Sosa got the start at third base in his place, as manager Rob Thomson wanted to inject some energy into the lineup. Bohm had a solid regular season but struggled down the stretch and in the postseason.
The Phillies overall have been struggling at the plate, with key players like Trea Turner and Nick Castellanos failing to produce in the playoffs. Despite a strong outing from ace Zack Wheeler in Game 1, the bullpen imploded and the team failed to score runs. Second baseman Bryson Stott was moved up in the lineup for Game 2 while Sosa batted eighth.
Thomson denied that benching Bohm was a wake-up call for the team, stating that the players are aware of what needs to be done. The Phillies are hoping that the change in the lineup will provide a spark and help them turn things around in the series.Overall, the team is looking to find a way to get their high-priced offense back on track in order to stay alive in the postseason.
