Orioles Activate Ryan Mountcastle and Release Reliever Craig Kimbrel

Baltimore Orioles’ first baseman Ryan Mountcastle has been activated from the 10-day injured list after a month-long absence due to a sprained left wrist. Mountcastle, who is hitting .267 with 13 homers and 61 RBIs, adds another strong right-handed hitter to the lineup according to manager Brandon Hyde. The Orioles also released reliever Craig Kimbrel and optioned outfielder Eloy Jiménez to Triple-A Norfolk.

Kimbrel, a nine-time All-Star with 440 career saves, had a 5.33 ERA and 23 saves in 29 chances with the Orioles. Jiménez, acquired from the Chicago White Sox in July, hit .232 with one homer and seven RBIs in 33 games for the Orioles this season. He is in the final guaranteed year of a six-year, $43 million contract.

In the last 10 days, the Orioles have welcomed back several players from the injured list, including right-handed pitcher Jacob Webb, outfielder Heston Kjerstad, left-handed reliever Danny Coulombe, infielder Jordan Westburg, and third baseman Ramón Urías. However, right-hander Grayson Rodriguez, who has been sidelined since July with a right lat injury, is still not facing hitters.

The team is making adjustments as they head into the final stretch of the season, with Mountcastle’s return providing a much-needed boost to the lineup. Baltimore fans are hopeful that the Orioles will finish the season strong and look forward to seeing what the team can accomplish with a healthy roster.
