Nationals bring back Trevor Williams to pitch against Cubs

The Washington Nationals have reactivated right-handed pitcher Trevor Williams ahead of their game against the Chicago Cubs. Williams, who had been on the injured list with a right flexor muscle strain since June 4, was off to a strong start this season with a 5-0 record and a 2.22 ERA in 11 games. Manager Dave Martinez stated that they would monitor Williams’ mechanics and workload closely as he returns to the mound. In order to make room for Williams on the roster, reliever Zach Brzykcy was optioned to Triple-A Rochester, and right-hander Joan Adon was transferred to the 60-day injured list. Williams made two rehab starts with Double-A Harrisburg before his return. He has a career record of 49-54 in 200 games and has a 11-10 record with a 4.61 ERA in two seasons with the Nationals. This move is seen as a positive development for the Nationals as they look to strengthen their pitching rotation for the remainder of the season.
