Another wave of drones and missiles from Russia aimed at Kyiv

In a series of escalating attacks, Ukraine’s capital Kyiv was hit by a barrage of missiles on Monday, causing residents to seek shelter as debris from downed weapons injured at least two people. The attack came after Kyiv launched its largest offensive on multiple Russian regions over the weekend. Russian forces reported intercepting and destroying 158 Ukrainian drones, including some over Moscow and its surrounding areas.

Ukrainian officials vowed to respond to the attacks, with the head of the Presidential Office, Andrii Yermak, warning that the enemy will feel the consequences. Kyiv’s air defences successfully shot down several cruise and ballistic missiles as well as drones targeting the capital and its suburbs. In Kharkiv, Ukraine’s second-largest city, at least 47 people were injured when Russian missiles struck a shopping mall and events complex.

The conflict also spilled over into Russian territory, with a retaliatory attack by Kyiv reportedly destroying a childcare facility in the city of Belgorod near the border. The region’s governor announced that some kindergartens will close for a week and schools will hold online classes as a result of the attack. The Institute for the Study of War reported continued assaults in Russia’s Kursk region, but no confirmed Ukrainian advances were noted.

As the conflict intensifies, both sides are bracing for further clashes and retaliations. The situation remains fluid and volatile, with ongoing reports of attacks and casualties on both sides of the conflict.
