Phillies acquire All-Star outfielder Hays from Baltimore in exchange for outfielder Pache and reliever Domínguez

The Philadelphia Phillies have made a significant trade with the Baltimore Orioles, acquiring outfielder Austin Hays in exchange for right-handed pitcher Seranthony Domínguez and outfielder Cristian Pache. Hays, the starting center fielder in the 2023 All-Star Game, has struggled this season with just three home runs and 14 RBIs in 63 games. Despite his slow start, the Phillies hope to utilize him in a platoon with left-handed hitter Brandon Marsh in left field as they make a push for their third consecutive trip to the playoffs. Domínguez, a 29-year-old pitcher, has appeared in 230 games for the Phillies over six seasons and currently holds a 4.25 ERA. Pache has hit .202 in 50 games for Philadelphia this season. The trade comes as both teams sit atop their respective divisions, with the Phillies holding the best record in baseball at 64-38 and the Orioles leading the AL East with a record of 61-41. Hays, originally drafted by the Orioles in 2016, has played 557 games for Baltimore over seven seasons, accumulating 121 doubles, eight triples, 66 home runs, 242 RBIs, and 126 walks. The Phillies hope that Hays’ experience and versatility will help bolster their lineup as they aim for their first World Series championship since 2008.
