Community activist Cornelius “Neal” McDonald, who was tragically shot and killed outside a Largo restaurant, will be remembered with a vigil planned by his friends and family. The vigil, which will focus on gun violence and community mental health, is set to take place on Saturday in his honor.
McDonald’s mother and sister expressed their disapproval of the claim of “self-defense” made by the shooter during a recent bond hearing. They emphasized McDonald’s positive impact on the community through his activism, music, and acting aspirations. His sister, Bianca Butler, stressed the importance of ensuring his legacy lives on.
The 33-year-old was known for his work as a community activist focusing on mental health and conflict resolution. He was also a musician and aspiring actor. The tragic incident occurred outside Jasper’s Restaurant in Largo after an argument with the shooter, 35-year-old Terelle Bailey, who remains in custody at the Prince George’s County Jail. Bailey, a special police officer in D.C., claimed self-defense, but the judge denied bond.
McDonald’s organization, GOOD Projects DC, where he served as a Family Success Coach and Supervisor, has posted videos on Instagram to encourage others to continue his work. As the community mourns his loss, the vigil serves as a tribute to his dedication to making a positive impact on those around him.
