San Jose Sharks Secure Comeback Victory Against Kings
SAN JOSE, Calif. (AP) — The San Jose Sharks celebrated their second consecutive win, defeating the Los Angeles Kings 4-2 in a thrilling match on Tuesday night at the SAP Center. Tyler Toffoli emerged as the hero, scoring the decisive goal midway through the third period, which was his sixth of the season.
Jake Walman also shone in the matchup, recording his second straight three-point game with one goal and two assists, having contributed three assists in the previous night’s overtime win against Utah. Fabian Zetterlund added a crucial goal in the third period, while William Eklund sealed the victory with an empty-netter.
The Sharks’ goaltender, Vitek Vanecek, made 26 saves, showcasing a strong performance that helped secure the win. For the Kings, Akil Thomas and Alex Laferriere found the net, but their efforts were not enough. Goalie David Rittich managed 17 saves in the loss.
The Kings were looking for their fifth victory in six games but played without star forward Kevin Fiala, who was a late scratch due to a team protocol violation. In a roster move, the Sharks recalled 22-year-old Ethan Cardwell from the San Jose Barracuda, who made his NHL debut, logging just under 12 minutes of ice time.
Notably, both teams struggled on power plays, going a combined 0 for 10, with San Jose failing to convert on four attempts and Los Angeles on six.
Looking ahead, the Kings are set to host the Vegas Golden Knights, while the Sharks will face off against the Chicago Blackhawks on Thursday night.
