Fever Dominate Sky in 79-52 Victory
CHICAGO (AP) — In a commanding performance, the Indiana Fever toppled the Chicago Sky 79-52 on Saturday night, never trailing during the contest. Kelsey Mitchell led Indiana with 17 points, while Natasha Howard contributed 13 as the Fever improved to 4-4, marking their second consecutive victory. This win follows an 85-76 triumph over Washington, helping Indiana bounce back after a three-game skid despite the absence of injured star Caitlin Clark.
The Fever established an early lead, going on a 10-1 run in the first quarter thanks to Mitchell’s layup, Aari McDonald’s back-to-back three-pointers, and another jumper from Mitchell. Indiana closed out the first half with a 41-28 advantage, ultimately maintaining a double-digit lead throughout the game. McDonald notched 12 points and three steals, while Aliyah Boston added 11 points, five rebounds, and five assists. The Fever demonstrated offensive efficiency with a shooting percentage of 46%, including 11 three-pointers and 20 assists on 27 field goals.
On the other side, the Sky struggled offensively, shooting just 32.1% from the field and 20% from beyond the arc, while committing 19 turnovers. Angel Reese managed 12 rebounds but scored only four points on 2-of-7 shooting. Notably, Courtney Vandersloot exited the game in the first quarter due to a knee injury and did not return.
Fever coach Stephanie White was absent due to personal reasons, with Austin Kelly stepping in as acting head coach. Looking ahead, the Sky will face New York in their next matchup, while the Fever will visit Atlanta on Tuesday.
