Multiple Shootings Under Investigation in Washington, D.C.
WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Metropolitan Police Department is currently probing five separate shooting incidents that occurred in the District on Saturday night, prompting heightened concern regarding public safety.
The first incident unfolded around 7:50 p.m. near the Dupont Metro entrance, close to a Krispy Kreme location. One adult man sustained gunshot wounds to the foot. Following the shooting, Metro officials closed the 19th Street entrance while the Q Street entrance remained operational.
Later, at approximately 10:27 p.m., officers responded to reports of another shooting in the Unit block of M Street, Northeast, where one adult man was found conscious and breathing with a gunshot wound. Emergency medical services transported him to a local hospital, where his injuries were reported as non-life threatening.
Around 10:44 p.m., officers investigated gunfire in the 1600 block of W Street, Southeast. During this incident, at least one suspect fired toward responding officers; fortunately, no police personnel were harmed. Another adult man was located with a gunshot wound and subsequently taken to a hospital for non-life threatening injuries.
The final two shootings occurred shortly after. Around 10:58 p.m., officers responded to a shooting near 13th and T Streets, Northwest, where a juvenile boy was found injured. A potential suspect was detained, and a weapon was recovered. Shortly thereafter, authorities responded to another shooting in the 1900 block of 13th Street, Northwest, where another juvenile boy was discovered with a gunshot wound.
The Metropolitan Police have urged anyone with information regarding these incidents to come forward. As investigations continue, local residents remain on edge in light of the uptick in violence.
