DC Police Hunt for Suspect Stealing Thousands in Cold Medicine
Washington, D.C. – Authorities are on the lookout for a man who has reportedly stolen thousands of dollars’ worth of cold and sinus medications from multiple pharmacies in Northwest Washington. The suspect has been seen entering Walgreens stores with a garbage bag, which he fills with various pharmaceutical products before walking out without paying.
According to police, the most recent incident occurred last Thursday at a Walgreens located on the 3300 block of New Mexico Avenue, where the man absconded with nearly $2,500 in medication. Investigators also link him to previous heists, including one in February in which he is accused of stealing over $1,700 worth of medicines. Just three weeks prior to the latest theft, he allegedly took more than $2,000 in cold, sinus, and allergy medication from another Walgreens on 1100 block of F Street, NW. This pattern of thefts began to surface back in April, highlighting a concerning trend of opportunistic crime targeting over-the-counter medications.
Authorities have released security images of the suspect, who is described as wearing a grey hooded sweatshirt, dark pants, and blue sneakers. In response to this string of thefts, the Metropolitan Police Department is offering a reward of up to $1,000 for any information leading to the arrest and conviction of the suspect.
Community members are urged to report any sightings or information regarding the suspect to assist in resolving this ongoing issue of theft that is impacting local pharmacies.
