LA28 Olympics Organizers Assure Participant Accessibility Amid Trump’s Travel Ban
Los Angeles, CA – Planning for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics is on track, with organizers expressing confidence that recent travel restrictions imposed by President Donald Trump will not hinder international participants’ entry into the U.S. During a recent press conference at the Los Angeles Convention Center, LA28 Chairman Casey Wasserman emphasized the government’s understanding that the Olympics require special accommodation.
Wasserman commended federal authorities for their commitment to facilitating access for athletes and officials, stating, "We have great confidence that that will only continue." Nicole Hoevertsz, a member of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and chair of the Coordination Commission for LA28, echoed this sentiment, anticipating cooperation similar to that received during previous Olympic events.
Trump’s travel ban, enacted on Wednesday, restricts entry for nationals from 12 countries, with seven others facing partial bans. However, Hoevertsz assured that the situation is being closely monitored, ensuring necessary arrangements are in place.
A delegation of 16 IOC members concluded a three-day visit to Los Angeles, assessing various venue locations, including Dodger Stadium. Hoevertsz remarked on the significant progress made, stating, "We leave the city very confident with the road ahead."
With just 1,135 days to go until the Games’ opening on July 14, 2028, Wasserman declared the organization is now "in delivery mode." He also highlighted the importance of being prepared for potential challenges, referencing California’s history of wildfires and earthquakes. CEO Reynold Hoover noted that recent wildfires prompted the team to reassess organizational structures and sustainability efforts.
On the financial front, Wasserman expressed confidence that the Games will be profitable, indicating that LA28 has already secured over 60% of its contracted revenue—a significant milestone even before ticket sales commence.
