OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — NiJaree Canady led Texas Tech to a thrilling 4-3 victory over Texas on Thursday night, forcing a decisive third game in the Women’s College World Series, where both teams are vying for their first national title.
Canady delivered another impressive performance on the mound, scattering six hits and overcoming a tense seventh-inning situation. Maintaining a 4-1 lead entering the final frame, she faced challenges as Texas rallied. The Longhorns capitalized on an error by Texas Tech’s shortstop, allowing Katie Stewart to reach base. Shortly after, Canady hit Victoria Hunter with a pitch, setting the stage for a nail-biting finish with runners on first and second. Leighann Goode’s double brought Stewart home, narrowing the gap, and a subsequent sacrifice fly by pinch-hitter Katie Cimusz scored Hunter, making it 4-3.
