NEW YORK (AP) — The Cleveland Guardians delivered a commanding performance against the New York Yankees, clinching a 4-0 victory on Wednesday night at Yankee Stadium. Angel Martínez sparked the offense with a two-run homer in the first inning, marking a critical moment in the game.

Luis Ortiz, who had been searching for a win since April 18, showcased his skills on the mound by allowing just three hits and striking out seven over 5 2/3 innings, earning his third win of the season. Despite walking three batters, Ortiz effectively managed the Yankees’ lineup, including Aaron Judge, who managed two hits but was ultimately stymied by the Guardians’ pitching.

In the first inning, after José Ramírez’s double extended his on-base streak to 30 games, Martínez drove the ball deep into the right-field bleachers following a walk to leadoff hitter Steven Kwan. Daniel Schneeman also contributed with an RBI double in the same inning, helping the Guardians secure an early lead.

This win marked Cleveland’s first shutout at Yankee Stadium since August 2014, with Tim Herrin, Hunter Gaddis, and Emmanuel Clase contributing to the five-hitter performance. Clase ended the game strong, striking out two hitters in the ninth to seal the victory.

Yankees’ Clarke Schmidt struggled, allowing three runs over 5 2/3 innings, despite striking out eight batters. The Yankees have now been shut out twice this season, raising concerns as they grapple with inconsistent offensive performances.

Looking ahead, the Guardians are set to face the Yankees again on Thursday, with RHP Slade Cecconi slated to take the mound against LHP Max Fried, who recently suffered his first loss with the team.
