Alejandro Reca, CEO of San Ignacio, Discusses Dairy Sector Challenges and Opportunities
CNN Radio Argentina
In a recent interview on CNN Economía y Actualidad, Alejandro Reca, CEO of the renowned Argentine dairy company San Ignacio, shared insights into the current challenges and opportunities facing the dairy sector, particularly in light of macroeconomic conditions.
Reca highlighted San Ignacio’s robust export strategy, stating, "We are among the exporters reaching challenging markets such as Israel, Japan, the EU, the Philippines, and New Zealand." He emphasized their commitment to improving export quality and expanding their market reach.
Domestically, Reca noted that despite a decline in cream cheese demand at the beginning of the year, San Ignacio has effectively rallied to recover consumer interest. He emphasized the company’s shift away from catering exclusively to nostalgic consumers, aiming to appeal to a broader audience.
The CEO also addressed the pressing issue of inflation, characterizing it as a "debacle" for any economy. However, he expressed optimism, stating, "We are now noticing some certainty, which allows for better planning.” He acknowledged that while the current situation is not perfect, having a clearer outlook is essential for business operations.
Reca concluded by stating that San Ignacio is in a better position now, benefiting from a climate of certainty compared to the previous uncertainty regarding export capabilities. He underscored the need for structural reforms in Argentina’s tax system as a pivotal step toward broader economic stability.
As San Ignacio continues to navigate these challenges, Reca’s insights shed light on the resilience and adaptability required in the face of economic fluctuations in the dairy industry.
