Yarbrough Stars in Yankees’ 7-3 Victory Over Dodgers, Preventing Sweep; Judge and Ohtani Go Hitless

Yankees Snap Losing Streak Against Dodgers with 7-3 Victory

LOS ANGELES (AP) — The New York Yankees avoided a season sweep at the hands of the Los Angeles Dodgers, triumphing 7-3 Sunday thanks to a stellar performance from Ryan Yarbrough. The right-hander limited the Dodgers, the best offense in Major League Baseball, to just four hits over six innings, improving his record to 3-0 this season.

Ben Rice provided a crucial boost with a tiebreaking two-run homer, helping the Yankees bounce back after being outscored 26-7 in the first two games of the series, including a staggering 18-2 loss on Saturday.

Yoshinobu Yamamoto struggled for the Dodgers, yielding a season-high seven hits and four runs in just 3 2/3 innings, which included three walks. The Yankees took an early lead in the first inning with Jasson Domínguez’s RBI single, although he later exited the game with a bruised left thumb. Tommy Edman equalized for the Dodgers with a homer in the second, but it was Yarbrough who took command from there, retiring 13 of the next 15 batters.

The Yankees surged ahead with a three-run third inning, highlighted by Rice’s towering 425-foot homer and an additional run from a wild pitch by Yamamoto. They extended their lead in the fifth, with DJ LeMahieu and Oswald Peraza driving in runs.

Despite the loss, it marked the first time this season that the Dodgers’ top four hitters—Shohei Ohtani, Teoscar Hernández, Freddie Freeman, and Will Smith—went hitless.

Both teams face stiff upcoming challenges: the Yankees will send Carlos Rodón to the mound against the Cleveland Guardians, while the Dodgers are set to face the New York Mets.
