D.C. Police Boost Security at Religious Sites Following Boulder Attack

Washington, D.C. – In the wake of a violent incident in Boulder, Colorado, D.C. Police have increased their presence at religious institutions throughout the city. The move comes after a man armed with a makeshift flamethrower attacked a group demonstrating for Israeli hostages in Gaza, injuring eight individuals, some of whom suffered burns. The suspect, 45-year-old Mohamed Sabry Soliman, is under investigation by the FBI for potential terrorism-related charges.

Authorities in D.C. are coordinating with local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies to share intelligence and ensure the safety of residents, businesses, and visitors. The Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) has emphasized that while there are currently no known threats in the District, they are prioritizing security measures, especially at Jewish establishments.

"Our commitment to the safety of the community is paramount," stated an MPD representative. "We have maintained an increased presence at religious institutions across the city, particularly focusing on Jewish sites."

The MPD encourages citizens to report any suspicious activities to their Real Time Crime Center, emphasizing the importance of community vigilance during this heightened state of alert.

Citizens of Washington D.C. can reach the MPD by calling 202-727-9099, texting 50411, or submitting reports online at iwatch.dc.gov.

This increased security comes as part of ongoing efforts to foster a safe environment amidst growing tensions surrounding religious and political issues in the region.
