Arlington Father Raises Alarm Over ‘Ding-Dong Ditch’ Prank After Deadly Incident
ARLINGTON, VA — A Northern Virginia father is calling on parents to discuss the dangers of the prank known as "ding-dong ditch," following a tragic incident in Spotsylvania County where a prankster was shot. The prank, which involves ringing a doorbell and running away, has escalated into serious concerns for both participants and homeowners.
Ryan Morgan, an Arlington resident, experienced a similar incident when masked teens rang his doorbell. His concern grew as he recognized the potential dangers posed by such behavior. "When someone knocks on your door with a ski mask, you’re concerned," he said. After assessing the situation, he called 911 to ensure the safety of his family.
Morgan’s doorbell camera captured the teens banging on his door for about ten seconds before fleeing. This incident occurred on Memorial Day and left him worried about the risks faced by young pranksters. "Something could happen to the kids if they bang on the wrong door," he stated.
Police have issued warnings about the legal implications of the prank, particularly noting that in Virginia, it is illegal for individuals over 16 to conceal their identity with ski masks during unlawful acts. Recently, a juvenile was charged for wearing a mask in connection with a robbery in Arlington.
