Dodgers Dominate Yankees with Historic 18-2 Victory
LOS ANGELES (AP) — Max Muncy put on a power display, belting two three-run homers and tying his career high with seven RBIs, as the Los Angeles Dodgers crushed the New York Yankees 18-2 on Saturday. The Dodgers amassed a season-high 21 hits, marking their most runs ever against the Yankees in franchise history.
Los Angeles jumped out to an early lead, scoring four runs in the first inning against Yankees starter Will Warren (3-3), with key contributions from Will Smith and Muncy. Muncy’s impressive 400-foot homer in the second inning not only celebrated his 200th career round-tripper but also effectively ended Warren’s outing, who required 39 pitches in the opening frame.
The Dodgers extended their lead dramatically, with Tommy Edman and Ha-seong Kim also contributing to the onslaught. Kim followed with a memorable 412-foot homer after celebrating with Shohei Ohtani, who was on deck. Muncy later added a second homer in the fifth inning, while rookie Dalton Rushing celebrated his first Major League home run with a three-run shot in the eighth.
On the pitching front, starter Landon Knack (3-2) was solid, allowing just one run over six innings, alongside six strikeouts, while position player Kiké Hernández mopped up the ninth, giving up only one hit.
In an already impressive series, the Dodgers have outscored the Yankees 26-7 over the first two games, a rematch of last year’s World Series, which Los Angeles won in five games.
Looking ahead, the series finale will feature Yankees left-hander Ryan Yarbrough against Dodgers right-hander Yoshinobu Yamamoto.
