Twins Rally Past Mariners with Late-Inning Heroics
SEATTLE (AP) — In a thrilling contest on Friday night, the Minnesota Twins rallied from a three-run deficit to secure a 12-6 victory over the Seattle Mariners, thanks in part to Carlos Correa’s two-run home run in the 10th inning.
Correa, capitalizing on a first-pitch sinker from Mariners reliever Casey Legumina, launched the ball into left field, igniting a five-run rally for the Twins. The late surge marked a stunning turnaround for Minnesota, who had been trailing for much of the game.
Seattle’s closer Andres Munoz, who had entered the game without allowing an earned run all season, faced a challenging ninth inning. Willi Castro’s two-run homer and Trevor Larnach’s RBI single allowed the Twins to tie the game late, stifling Munoz’s impressive streak.
Despite the loss, Mariners catcher Cal Raleigh had a standout performance, hitting two home runs to increase his season total to 21. He made history as the first catcher to achieve at least 20 home runs before the end of May, joining legendary teammates Alex Rodriguez and Ken Griffey Jr. in the franchise record books.
The pivotal moment came when outfielder Byron Buxton, recently reinstated from the concussion list, stole second base before Larnach’s crucial single. This aggressive play positioned Buxton to score easily, enabling the Twins to secure the lead.
Looking ahead, Seattle’s right-hander Bryce Miller, who has struggled this season, is slated to return from the injured list on Saturday night, facing off against Twins’ Bailey Ober.
As the Twins celebrate their come-from-behind victory, Seattle will seek to regroup and bounce back in the subsequent game of the series.
