The NBA is set to announce this season’s Most Improved Player, with Detroit’s Cade Cunningham, Los Angeles Clippers’ Ivica Zubac, and Atlanta’s Dyson Daniels as the top finalists. The winner will be revealed on Wednesday evening at 7 p.m. on TNT.
Cunningham has showcased remarkable growth, significantly boosting his statistics: averaging 26.1 points per game (up from 22.7), improving his field goal percentage to .469, and contributing 6.1 rebounds and 9.1 assists. His performance was key in transforming the Pistons from 14-68 last season to a playoff team with a 44-38 record this year.
Zubac, in his best career year, averaged 16.8 points, 12.6 rebounds, and 2.7 assists over 80 games, playing nearly 33 minutes per game. He established himself as one of the league’s outstanding defensive players.
Daniels had a breakout season with the Hawks, significantly surpassing his previous season with New Orleans. He averaged 14.1 points, 5.9 rebounds, 4.4 assists, and a league-high 3.0 steals, all while shooting at a career-best 49.3%. His ascension to a full-time starter role marked a significant turning point for his career.
Voting for the award involved a global panel of 100 writers and broadcasters. Other NBA awards recently announced include rookie of the year for San Antonio’s Stephon Castle, defensive player of the year for Cleveland’s Evan Mobley, and sixth man of the year for Boston’s Payton Pritchard. Upcoming accolades will reveal the MVP, coach of the year, and the All-NBA teams later in the playoffs.
