Van der Poel secures back-to-back Paris-Roubaix victories with a second-place finish for Pogačar following a late crash.

Dutch rider Mathieu van der Poel won the Paris-Roubaix race for the third consecutive year after Tadej Pogačar crashed late in the race. The grueling 259.2-kilometer “Hell of the North” race saw Pogačar misjudge a turn on a cobblestone section, leading to a crash that cost him crucial time. Despite efforts to catch up, Pogačar finished second, with Danish rider Mads Pedersen taking third place.

Van der Poel, who also bested Pogačar at the Milan-San Remo race last month, celebrated his victory by raising his bike in the air at the finish line. The race was anticipated as a showdown between the two cycling stars, with Pogačar known for his solo attacks and resilience. However, Van der Poel’s tactical prowess and speed ultimately secured him the win.

In the women’s race, Pauline Ferrand-Prévôt overcame sickness and a crash to win for the first time with a well-timed solo breakaway. The race featured 29.2 km of cobbles, adding to the challenges faced by the riders.

The long-standing tradition of Paris-Roubaix continues to showcase the grit and determination of cyclists on the challenging course. Despite setbacks and crashes, riders like Van der Poel and Pogačar demonstrate their resilience and competitive spirit in this iconic race.
