Thousands of Poles gathered in Warsaw to celebrate the 1,000th anniversary of the coronation of Poland’s first king. The upcoming presidential election on May 18 will determine the future leadership of Poland, with Law and Justice seeking to maintain its hold on power. Incumbent President Andrzej Duda, who is an ally of Law and Justice, will be completing his second and final term this summer. The race is expected to be closely contested between Trzaskowski, Nawrocki, and other candidates, underscoring the deep political divisions within the country.
