Octavio Argüello, a member of the CGT tripartite and leader of the Truckers union, spoke on CNN Radio on Monday about the upcoming national strike, the Truckers’ wage negotiations, the political landscape, and the Day of Remembrance. Argüello stated that there will be a cessation of activities on the 9th to support retirees, and emphasized that if the government does not reconsider its policies, the strike will continue. He criticized the government for not negotiating and instead imposing decisions.
Regarding the Truckers’ wage negotiations, Argüello mentioned that they achieved a 4% increase with a review clause, noting that this is the first time the current government has accepted such a clause. He refuted claims that they accepted a 1% monthly wage increase.
In discussing the Day of Remembrance, Argüello criticized the government, accusing them of being denialists who want to erase past injustices. He emphasized the importance of preserving the memory of past atrocities, saying that the “Never Again” motto belongs to the people and not the politicians. He also criticized certain figures in the media for allegedly perpetuating a narrative that undermines human rights.
