Construction at the Tidal Basin to Have Impact on Cherry Blossom Viewing

The Cherry Blossom Festival in Washington, D.C. is set to begin as Spring arrives, with peak bloom predicted between March 28 and April 1. Despite changes to the Tidal Basin due to construction, the festivities will continue as planned. A new sea wall is being constructed between the Jefferson and Franklin Delano Roosevelt Memorials, resulting in the removal of 148 trees. However, 269 new trees will be planted when the work is completed next year. National Park Service spokesperson Mike Litterst assures that the flow of foot traffic around the basin will not be impacted, with all trails and roads remaining open. The walkway may narrow in some areas, but it was designed with cherry blossom season in mind to avoid any disruptions to visitors. Despite the construction, the Cherry Blossom Festival will still offer plenty of opportunities to enjoy the beauty of the blossoms and celebrate the arrival of the new season. Stay tuned for more updates on the festival’s events and activities.
