President Donald Trump announced on Monday that he would be immediately ending Secret Service protection details for Joe Biden’s adult children. The former president had extended the protection until July shortly before leaving office in January. Trump took issue with the number of agents assigned to Hunter and Ashley Biden’s protective details, stating that there were 18 agents assigned to Hunter Biden and 13 agents assigned to Ashley Biden.
Under federal law, former presidents and their spouses receive lifelong Secret Service protection, but the protection for their immediate family members over the age of 16 ends when they leave office. Both Trump and Biden had extended the protection for their children for six months before leaving office.
During a visit to the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, Trump was asked by a reporter if he would revoke the protection for Hunter Biden. Trump stated that he would look into the matter as it was the first time he had heard about it.
The former president’s office did not immediately respond to Trump’s decision to end Secret Service protection for Biden’s adult children. Trump’s decision comes as he meets with President Joe Biden at the White House ahead of his inauguration. Trump stated that he would be taking a closer look at the protection details for the former president’s son.
