Dominican Republic authorities have seized the passport of Joshua Riibe, the man last seen with missing University of Pittsburgh student Sudiksha Konanki. Riibe, a senior at St. Cloud State University, has not been named a suspect in the case, but is considered a person of interest. He was the only publicly known eyewitness to Konanki’s disappearance on March 6 while on vacation in Punta Cana. Riibe’s passport was confiscated by authorities several days ago when he attempted to check out of his hotel at the beginning of the investigation. His parents have expressed concerns about the treatment of their son during the investigation, claiming he was detained under irregular conditions and subjected to extensive questioning without legal counsel present. Riibe has provided varying accounts of the events leading to Konanki’s disappearance, ranging from swimming with her and leaving her in the water due to illness, to seeing her walking on the beach before falling asleep. The search for Konanki continues, with two members of the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office assisting investigators in the Dominican Republic. Authorities are still treating the case as a missing person investigation and are heavily scrutinizing Riibe due to his proximity to Konanki at the time of her disappearance.
