Sheriff confirms body of Atlanta teacher found in Georgia lake a month after disappearance

The body of missing Atlanta teacher and coach, Gary Jones, was found in Lake Oconee, Georgia, not far from where his fiancee, Joycelyn Wilson, was found dead a day after the two went missing on February 8th. Jones’ body was discovered by search-and-recovery expert Keith Cormican, who was brought in by Jones’ family. Jones was a teacher and track and field coach at the Westminster Schools. The sheriff’s office had previously obtained video of Wilson and Jones launching their boat from a marina. The area where the bodies were found is near a dam that separates Lake Oconee from Lake Sinclair. Previous searches involved cadaver dogs, government vessels, private boats, helicopters, and underwater sonar. The bodies were found in about 45 feet of water where underwater timber still stands from when the lake was flooded to build it nearly 50 years ago. The discovery comes a month after Wilson’s body was recovered. The investigation is ongoing, and further details are yet to be released.
