The town, which housed major gas transfer stations, was a crucial outlet for Russian gas exports through Ukrainian territory. Fierce fighting is ongoing in Sudzha, with Russian forces entering the town through the pipeline.
Ukraine’s General Staff confirmed the use of the pipeline by Russian “sabotage and assault groups” to gain a foothold outside Sudzha.
