A proposed drug and rehab center in Montgomery County, Maryland, located next to an elementary school, is facing opposition from the community. USR Holdings plans to operate the Freedom Center Drug and Rehab Facility in a tight-knit neighborhood in Brookeville. The facility would be located in two homes on Gold Mine Place, with up to 16 clients on site for 30 to 60 days. Concerned parents held a PTA meeting at Greenwood Elementary School to express their concerns, with one neighbor calling the plan unacceptable. While the company has stated that safety precautions will be in place, including screening patients and additional trees as a barrier between the school and the facility, many neighbors are still opposed to the idea. Council member Dawn Luedtke has acknowledged the community’s concerns and plans to discuss the issue further at a community meeting in the coming weeks. Despite the company claiming that the plan has been approved by the county, residents are sharing flyers and encouraging others to reach out to elected officials and the school district. Overall, the community is united against the proposed drug and rehab center, with neighbors and parents expressing their disapproval of having such a facility in a residential area, especially next to an elementary school. FOX 5 has reached out to the Freedom Center director for further information on their plans.
