Washington defeats Minnesota women 79-65 in debut Big Ten Tournament

In their first appearance in the Big Ten Tournament, the No. 12 seed Washington women’s basketball team defeated No. 13 seed Minnesota with a final score of 79-65. Elle Ladine led Washington with 21 points, eight rebounds, and five assists, while Sayvia Sellers and Dalayah Daniels contributed 15 points each. This win marked Washington’s sixth straight victory and set them up to face No. 5 seed Michigan in the second round.

Washington took control of the game with a 12-0 run in the third quarter, establishing a 52-38 lead. Despite a late surge by Minnesota in the third quarter, Washington was able to pull away in the fourth quarter, securing the win.

Minnesota, with a record of 20-11, was led by Grace Grocholski with 21 points and Mallory Heyer with 11 points. This loss marked their 11th defeat at the hands of Big Ten opponents this season, and they have a tournament record of 11-32, with their only appearance in the final occurring in 2005.

Washington’s victory continues a trend of success against Minnesota, as they have now won the last six meetings between the two teams. The team will now focus on their upcoming matchup with Michigan, looking to avenge their regular-season loss to the Wolverines.
