Six additional tennis players banned for ties to match-fixing network

Six more current or former tennis players have been suspended and fined in connection to a match-fixing syndicate in Belgium, as reported by the International Tennis Integrity Agency. This brings the total number of players punished for their ties to the syndicate to around 30, with Grigor Sargsyan being the mastermind behind it. Sargsyan has already been sentenced to five years in prison.

The player receiving the longest suspension, 34-year-old Agustin Moyano from Argentina, was banned for 15 years and fined $10,000 after denying the charges and requesting a hearing. Moyano had a career-best ranking of 1,343 in 2015.

Five other players admitted to breaching rules in matches played in 2017-18. They include David Guez, Jerome Inzerillo, Romain Bauvy, Yannick Jankovits, and François-Arthur Vibert. Their suspensions varied from two years to five years, seven months.

Guez, who reached a career-high ranking of No. 116 in 2010, has accepted a four-year ban and a $25,000 fine. $17,500 of the fine is suspended. He has not played an official match since 2018 and earned over $800,000 in prize money during his career. The suspensions and fines highlight the continued efforts of tennis authorities to crack down on match-fixing and corruption within the sport.
