Washington, DC – United States Capitol police officers arrested a man following an alleged assault on U.S. Representative Nancy Mace inside the Rayburn House Office Building. The incident occurred shortly before 6 p.m. when Mace’s office reported the assault to Capitol Police. The suspect, identified as James McIntyre, 33, of Illinois, was swiftly located and arrested for assaulting a government official.
In a statement following the incident, Rep. Mace commented that she was physically accosted by a “pro-tr*ns man” and was in need of a wrist brace and ice for her arm. She expressed determination to not be deterred by threats and violence, emphasizing that it will only make her work harder.
The Rayburn House Office Building was open to the public at the time of the assault, and authorities confirmed that McIntyre had passed through standard security screening. An investigation into the incident is ongoing.
