Police have arrested Luigi Mangione in connection with the murder of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson at a McDonald’s in Altoona, Pennsylvania. Mangione, facing charges of murder and other felonies in New York, is also facing weapons and forgery charges in Pennsylvania. Police recovered bullet casings with words written on them, suggesting a possible motive related to corporate America. Mangione had handwritten papers on him expressing ill will towards corporate America. Thompson was shot in Midtown Manhattan on December 4th and the alleged shooter fled the scene. Police found a backpack connected to the killing containing a jacket and fake money from a Monopoly game. Mangione was later spotted in Altoona, Pennsylvania by a McDonald’s employee and was arrested on charges including forgery and carrying a firearm without a license. In New York City, Mangione is charged with murder and multiple weapons felonies. Investigators will further determine charges related to Thompson’s shooting. Chief of Detectives Joseph Kenny stated that Mangione’s motivation and mindset are reflected in the documents found on him, which included no other targets but expressed animosity towards corporate America.
