Rainstorm approaching East Coast will bring warmer temperatures and increased precipitation

The East Coast, which has been experiencing extremely cold temperatures, is expected to warm up from Sunday into midweek. However, this warming trend will bring foggy, wet weather and potentially heavy rainfall, with some areas at risk for flooding. A weather system is predicted to bring snow to the mountains in the West before strengthening near the Gulf Coast and bringing wet conditions to the East. While a break from the arctic blast is welcomed, potential flood risks are a concern.

Chilly temperatures are expected to ease, with Washington, D.C., New York City, and Philadelphia seeing temperatures rising into the 60s by Wednesday. Last week’s arctic surge brought snow squalls and whiteouts to the Northeastern and Mid-Atlantic states, with parts of Florida also experiencing cold weather alerts. The upcoming wet weather could dampen wildfire concerns in some areas that have been experiencing dry conditions.

Despite the wet weather, severe cold is not expected, with a potential change to wet snow on Wednesday night. However, the possibility of flooding due to rain falling on saturated soil remains a concern. Overall, the East Coast can expect more seasonal temperatures after the week ends, with mild conditions expected for millions of people in the Central and Eastern states.
