Woman dies, 3 displaced in Prince George’s County house fire


A tragic house fire in Bladensburg, Prince George’s County has resulted in the death of one woman and the displacement of three others. The fire broke out in a home on Varnum Street around 4:35 p.m. on Wednesday, with firefighters responding to reports of a trapped occupant. Upon arrival, they found the two-story home engulfed in flames, ultimately discovering the woman’s body inside. One additional person was able to escape unharmed.

The Prince George’s County Fire Department and Police Department are conducting a joint investigation into the incident, with the cause of death and the woman’s identity to be released following an autopsy. The three displaced adults are receiving relocation assistance from the Prince George’s County Office of Emergency Management.

This tragic event underscores the importance of fire safety and preparedness. The fire department has responded to 23 structure fires in the county in the past month and reminds residents to have an escape plan and working smoke alarm in their homes. As the community mourns the loss of the woman and supports those displaced by the fire, authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident in hopes of preventing future tragedies.
