Kirill Kaprizov’s last-second goal in overtime led the Minnesota Wild to a 3-2 victory over the Vancouver Canucks, marking their sixth win in eight games. Frederic Gaudreau and Jake Middleton also scored for the Wild, while Filip Gustavsson made 30 saves. The Wild now have an NHL-best 38 points with a record of 17-4-4. The Canucks saw goals from Quinn Hughes and Jake DeBrusk, with Kevin Lankinen making 26 saves in the loss – his first defeat in 11 road starts.
The game was tied at 2-2 entering overtime when Kaprizov netted his 16th goal of the season, marking his ninth career OT winner. This win was significant for the Wild as it was the first time they won a game in six chances when trailing after the second period. DeBrusk’s goal with 41 seconds remaining in the second period had put Vancouver ahead, but Middleton equalized early in the third.
Hughes’ goal for Vancouver was the team’s first power-play goal by a defenseman this season. DeBrusk continues to lead Vancouver in goals, with eight of his 11 goals scored in the past six games. The Canucks will now open a six-game homestand against Columbus, while the Wild will start a three-game road trip in Anaheim.
