After a fire five years ago, Notre Dame Cathedral has been restored and is now open to the public.

The Notre-Dame Cathedral in Paris reopened to the public in December 2024, more than five years after a devastating fire in April 2019. The fire, believed to be caused by an accident, destroyed parts of the cathedral including the spire and roof. The restoration efforts required nearly $900 million in donations from around the world. The cathedral underwent extensive reconstruction, including the spire, masonry, stained-glass windows, and the Grand Organ. The project involved thousands of workers and experts and cost hundreds of millions of euros. After a three-month pause due to the COVID-19 pandemic, construction resumed and the damaged scaffolding was removed. The restored cathedral was officially completed in November 2020, and work on the interior began. The project involved a search for compatible stones and meticulous restoration of intricate details. The cathedral’s famous Grand Organ, consisting of 8,000 pipes, was also restored. The restoration project, which included hundreds of companies and experts, aimed to honor the cathedral’s historic and cultural significance. The Notre-Dame Cathedral’s reopening marked a significant milestone in the efforts to preserve and restore this iconic landmark.
