Woman sentenced to 25-year prison term for DUI accident

Jamie Lee Komoroski, a woman from South Carolina, was sentenced to 25 years in prison for felony DUI causing death after she crashed her vehicle into a newlywed couple’s golf cart, killing the bride, 34-year-old Samantha Miller. Komoroski also pleaded guilty to reckless homicide and two counts of felony DUI causing bodily injury. She admitted in court that she had an addiction to alcohol, which led her to drink and drive on the night of the incident.

Miller was killed just hours after her wedding ceremony, leaving her husband, Aric Hutchinson, seriously injured along with his brother-in-law and nephew. Komoroski was driving 65 mph when she hit the golf cart, and her blood alcohol content was more than three times the legal limit. Hutchinson later filed a wrongful death lawsuit against Komoroski and local businesses that served her alcohol on the night of the crash, resulting in settlements amounting to more than $863,000.

During victim impact statements in court, Hutchinson tearfully described his physical injuries and the last moments he spent with Miller on the golf cart. He expressed regret for not being the one who died that night, so Miller wouldn’t have to go alone. Komoroski also apologized to Miller’s family for her actions and acknowledged the impact of her addiction. The judge sentenced her to 25 years for felony DUI causing death, to be served concurrently with other charges.
