Hannah Kobayashi, a woman from Hawaii reported missing in Los Angeles, was seen on surveillance footage crossing the border into Mexico voluntarily, according to authorities. She was reported missing after not boarding a connecting flight from Maui to New York City on Nov. 8. Her family became alarmed when she sent texts that were out of character, and after being missing for several days, a missing person report was filed on Nov. 12. Following national attention and a search party formed by family and friends, her father was found dead near LAX by apparent suicide. LAPD announced she was voluntarily missing after reviewing footage of her crossing into Mexico on foot. Investigators found that Kobayashi had intentionally missed her flight to New York, despite family disputing this, and had left LAX with her luggage, traveled to Union Station in Los Angeles, and then crossed the border. Investigators determined there was no evidence of human trafficking or foul play, and Kobayashi is not considered a suspect in any criminal activity. LAPD will not continue investigating in Mexico but said law enforcement would be notified if Kobayashi were to return to the U.S. Her missing person case remains active until her safety can be confirmed. Kobayashi is described as 5 feet, 10 inches tall with brown hair, hazel eyes, freckles, and a tattoo of a heart with a knife on her right forearm. She was known to be creative, entrepreneurial, and an aspiring photographer.
