A data cable running across the land border between Sweden and Finland has been damaged in two separate places on Finnish territory, causing disruptions for 6,000 private customers and 100 business customers. The Swedish Telecommunications Authority is investigating the matter in collaboration with the company Global Connect. This incident follows the rupture of two data cables on the Baltic Sea bed last month, one from Finland to Germany and the other from Lithuania to Sweden, both damaged in Swedish waters. Finnish, Swedish, and German authorities have launched investigations, with Germany’s defense minister suggesting the damage may have been caused by sabotage, although there is no concrete proof at present. Sweden has formally asked China to cooperate in explaining the rupture of the Baltic Sea data cables, where a China-flagged vessel had been sighted. The situation is being taken seriously by authorities, and efforts are underway to resolve the issue and prevent similar incidents in the future.
